What should be the value of $a$ to make the series $2,\ a,\ 8,...$ to be in AP.
Given: $2,\ a,\ 8,...$ are in AP.
To do: To find the value of $a$.
Solution:
$\because 2,\ a,\ 8,.....$ is an A.P.
$\therefore a-2=8-a$
$\Rightarrow a+a=8+2$
$\Rightarrow 2a=10$
$\Rightarrow a=\frac{10}{2}$
$\Rightarrow a=5$
Thus $a=5$.
