What is Venus Flytrap?

The Venus flytrap is a carnivorous flowering plant native to subtropical wetlands on the East Coast of the United States in North Carolina and South Carolina. The “trap” is made of two hinged lobes at the end of each leaf. On the inner surfaces of the lobes are hair-like projections called trichomes that cause the lobes to snap shut when prey comes in contact with them.

As photosynthetic plants, Venus flytraps do not rely on insects or bugs for energy but rather use the nitrogen-rich animal proteins to enable their survival in marginal soil conditions.
