What is the subconscious and conscious mind? What are their responsibility and functions?
Conscious mind It contains all of the memories, feelings, thoughts, and wishes of which we are aware at any given moment. It just gives commands to the subconscious. It has a limited processing capacity. It is our objective or thinking mind. It has no memory and can hold only one thought at a time. It has four essential functions- 1. Identifies incoming information that is received through any of the six senses such as sight, smell, sound, taste, touch, or feeling. 2. Comparison. 3. Analysis 4. Deciding. Its function resembles very much like a binary computer, like performing two functions, that is to accepts data or rejects data in making choices and decisions. Subconscious mind It is a reservoir of feelings, urges, thoughts, and memories that are outside of our conscious awareness. It is subjective, means it does not think or reason independently, rather it merely obeys what the conscious mind commands. It works day & night continuously to make our behaviour so that it fits a pattern that can be consistent with our emotional thoughts, hopes, and desires. Our habits of thinking and acting are stored in our subconscious mind. The task of the subconscious mind is to store and retrieve data. Its job is to ensure that if someone is responding in exactly the way they are programmed.
