# What is the ratio of the height of an image to the height of an object known as?

The ratio of the height of an image to the height of an object is known as** linear magnification.**

That is,

$m=\frac{{h}_{2}}{{h}_{1}}$

where, h_{2} = height of the image

h_{1} = height of the object
