Extra information with the image is posted for reference only

A device called a split-ring or commutator consists of two conductive arcs separated by an insulator in an electric motor. It allows the current to reverse the direction (every 180°) in the coil of the motor and keep the motor spinning. The reversing of current in the coil is repeated after every half rotation due to which the coil continues to rotate as long as current from the battery is passed through it.
