What is the multiplication of integers?

Multiplication of Integers:

Integers can be either positive or negative, with the only exception of 0, which is neither positive nor negative.

  • Positive integers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.
  • Negative integers: –1, –2, –3, –4, etc.

A negative integer can be represented as a positive integer multiplied by –1. For example,

  • –5 = 5 × (–1)

Multiplication:

Multiplication is a repetitive addition. For example,

  • 3 x 2 = 2 + 2 + 2 = 6

Multiplication of any two integers of opposite sign always results in a negative integer.

Example: Find the product of 3 × (–5).

Answer:

Multiplication is nothing but repetitive addition.
