What is the meaning of diffused sunlight?

Diffuse means spreading out something like light. 

Diffused light and Directed light are different forms of light. Daylight is composed of direct sunlight when the sky is clear and diffused light when the sky is overcast.

Diffuse light arises when direct light is scattered naturally like by clouds or with artificial means.

Diffused light is not harsh and that has been softened in some way.
