What is the main function of the teeth?

The main function of teeth is, to help in eating, speaking, smiling, and to give shape to the face.

As a baby, a human has 20 teeth, and as an adult, we should have 32 teeth.

Among the 32 teeth, each has its own function in the chewing and eating process.

Adult teeth include incisors, canines, premolars, and molars:

1. Incisors (8 total): The middlemost four front teeth on the upper and lower jaws are sharp for holding and cutting food. They also help us to sense the texture and kind of food we eat.

2. Canines or cuspids (4 total): These are the pointed teeth on the top and bottom just beside the incisors. They help us in grabbing and tearing food.

3. Premolars (8 total): These teeth are between the canines and molars. They look like molars but have two cusps and are sometimes called bicuspids. They help to cut and tear food.

4. Molars (12 total): These are flat teeth in the rear of the mouth. They have broad chewing surfaces to grind down food before it’s finally swallowed. This includes wisdom teeth, the third set of molars that erupt at around the age of 18.
