What is the difference between the parasitic and saprotrophic mode of nutrition?

What is the difference between parasitic and saprophytic nutrition?

Answer

Parasitic nutrition:

Parasitic nutrition is when organisms depend for their food on another organism or host) and cause harm or diseases to the host ultimately killing it sometimes. Such organisms are called parasites

Examples: Cuscuta (Amabel), mosquitoes and head lice.

Saprophytic nutrition:

Saprophytic nutrition is when organisms obtain nutrition from dead and decaying organic matter. Such organisms are called saprotrophs.

Examples of saprotrophs are fungi, bacteria

The reason saprophytes are so beneficial to the environment is that they are the primary recyclers of nutrients. They break down organic matter so that the nitrogen, carbon and minerals it contains can be put back into a form that other living organisms can take up and use.
