What is the difference between the Endocrine system and the Exocrine system?
Endocrine- The endocrine system is a system of hormones and glands of the body that produces hormones and secretes them directly into the bloodstream.
Exocrine- The exocrine system is a system of hormones and glands that secrete chemical substances through ducts or tubes outside the body or onto another surface within the body.
The difference between the Endocrine system and Exocrine system are:
Endocrine | Exocrine |
1. Do not have ducts. | 1. Have ducts. |
2. Secrets Hormones. | 2. Secrets a variety of things such as sweat, enzymes, mucus. |
3. Secrete into the blood or lymph nodes. | 3. Secrete onto an epithelial surface. |
4. Located away from the target. | 4. Located over the target. |
5. Glands are complex. Examples- Pituitary, Thyroid, Adrenals. | 5. Glands are simple. Examples- Salivary Glands, Liver, Pancreas. |
