What is the difference between displacement and double displacement reactions? Write equations for these reactions.

The difference between displacement and double displacement reactions are given below:
Displacement ReactionDouble Displacement Reaction
A displacement reaction is one wherein the atom or a set of atoms is displaced by another atom in a molecule. The general equation for displacement reaction is,

A + B-C → A-C + B.

Double Displacement Reactions are reactions in which there is an exchange of ions between the reactants.

A-B + C-D → A-D +B-C.

In this type of reaction in which one element takes the place of another element in a compound.

In this reaction, two compounds react by an exchange of ions to form two new compounds.

$\ CuSO_{4} \ ( aq) \ +\ Zn\ ( s) \ \rightarrow \ ZnSO_{4}( aq) \ +\ Cu( s)$

$AgNO_{3} \ ( aq) \ +\ NaCl\ ( aq) \ \rightarrow AgCl\ ( s) +\ NaNO_{3} \ ( aq)$

$\underset{(aq)}{Pb(NO_{3})_{2}}+\underset{(aq)}{2KI}\rightarrow \underset{yellow \; pp}{PbI_{2}(\downarrow)} +\underset{(aq)}{2KNO_{3}}$
