What is the difference between compound and mixtures?
The differences between compound and mixtures are as follows:-
COMPOUND | MIXTURE |
1. The composition of elements present in a compound is fixed. | 1. The composition of elements present in a mixture is not fixed. |
2. A compound is always homogenous in nature. | 2. The mixture can be homogenous or heterogeneous. |
3. Melting and boiling point of a compound is usually fixed. | 3. Melting and boiling point of a compound is usually not fixed. |
4. Its constituents can be separated by chemical methods only. | 4. Its constituents can be separated by physical methods. |
5. The components of a compound are always present in a definite ratio by mass. | 5. The components of a mixture may be present in any ratio. |
6. Compound formation is accompanied by absorption or evolution of light, heat or electrical energy. | 6. Heat, light or electrical energy may not be evolved or absorbed during the formation of a mixture. |
