What is the definition of elastic and what are some materials that are elastic and inelastic?
Solid objects will deform when unnecessary loads are applied on them. If the material is elastic, the object will return to its initial shape and size once the load is removed. For rubbers and other polymers, when forces are applied, elasticity is caused by the stretching of polymer chains. These are absent in substances such as wood, iron, etc.
