What is plasma?

Plasma is a clear, straw-colored liquid portion of blood. About 55% of our blood is plasma.

The remaining 45% are red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.  All these blood components are suspended in the plasma. Plasma is composed of 92% water and 7% vital proteins such as albumin, gamma globulin, and anti-hemophilic factor, and 1% mineral salts, sugars, fats, hormones and vitamins.

Plasma helps to maintain blood pressure and volume. It helps in transport of electrolytes to muscles and critical proteins for blood clotting and immunity.
