What is percentage?

Percentage means “for every 100” or "out of 100." The (%) symbol as a quick way to write a fraction with a denominator of 100.

For example: 24 out of 100 can be written as 24%.

A percentage is a number or ratio expressed as a fraction of 100. It is often denoted using the percent sign, "%".

For example: The ratio $\frac{1}{2}$ expressed as a percentage is 50%.

Similarly, the ratio $\frac{3}{4}$ expressed as a percentage is 75%.

To convert a fraction into a  percentage, we multiply the fraction with 100.

For example, express $\frac{1}{5}$ as a percentage

$\frac{1}{5}\times$  100 = 20%

Similarly, decimals are converted into percentages and vice versa

Example: 0.1 = $\frac{1}{10} = \frac{1}{10} \times$ 100 = 10%

To convert a percentage into a fraction we divide by 100

Example, 5% is $\frac{5}{100} \ or \ \frac{1}{20}$
