What is meant by drag force?

Drag (sometimes called air resistance or fluid resistance, a type of friction or fluid friction) is a force acting opposite to the relative motion of any object moving with respect to a surrounding fluid  (liquid or gas). This can exist between two fluid layers (or surfaces) or a fluid and a solid surface.

In other words, it is a mechanical force generated by the interaction and contact of a solid body moving through a fluid like water or air.

It is directed opposite to the velocity of the body and generally depends on the speed of that body. Higher speed equals to the higher drag force.

Example- A car driving on a highway, A swimmer swimming in a pool, An aeroplane flying in the air, etc.
