What is mean by square root ?

Square Root:

The square root of a number is that number which when multiplied to itself gives the given number. 

Thus, if p is the square root of q, then

$p \times p = q$     or    $p^2 = q$

The square root of q is denoted by $\sqrt{q}$. Here, ‘√’ is known as the radical symbol.
