What Is Locomotion?

Locomotion is the ability of cells or organisms to move or displace from one place to another place.\r
\r
In multicellular animals, locomotive movements include walking, running, climbing, jumping, crawling, flying, etc. depending on the habitat of the animal. \r
\r
Terrestrial animals are capable of terrestrial locomotion with special adaptations of feet and strong limbs for running and walking. \r
Limbless animals, such as snakes, are adapted to slither over a surface. \r
Animals like monkey and gorilla with longer hind limbs are adapted to jump high. \r
Aquatic habitat animals like fish move using their fins for locomotion. \r
Single-celled organisms like ciliates and flagellates use cilia and flagella for locomotion. \r
Arboreal animals like tree snails, bats, and leopards are adapted to climb, stay on trees, and move from one tree to another.
