What is Litmus?


Litmus is a water-soluble mixture of different dyes extracted from lichens.  It is a weekly acidic colored organic dye. It is often absorbed on to filter paper to produce one of the oldest forms of pH indicator. It turns to red in acid solutions and turns to blue in alkaline solutions. It is used as an acid-base indicator
