Degree 2 (Quadratic) can have letters a, b, c: $ax^{2} \ +\ bx\ +\ c$  


Degree 3 (Cubic) can have letters a, b, c, d: $ax^{3} \ +\ bx^{2} \ +\ cx\ +\ d$
