Egestion

Egestion is the discharge or expulsion of undigested food material from a cell in the case of unicellular organisms, and from the digestive tract in the case of multicellular organisms.

Uses of egestion

Egestion helps remove any toxic or potentially harmful compound that has entered our body through the oral route. It also helps the body to get rid of the excess of heme (part of hemoglobin)by forming side products that are expelled through the digestive tract. So egestion is an important process for homeostasis and health.
