What is dam?
Dams are the barriers built across the river or lake to hold water. Dams restrict the flow of water. There are advantages and disadvantages of constructing dams.
Advantages:
1. Dams do not contribute to air or water pollution.
2. They constantly supply water for electricity generation.
3. Dams also provide water supply for irrigation, consumption, aquaculture, industrial purposes, etc.
Disadvantages:
1. Dams require more constructional space.
2. They are extremely expensive.
