What is Congruence?

Every geometrical figure can be described by its shape, size, and position. The term congruence means same shape and size, that is equal in every aspect. If two figures have exact size and shape, they are said to be congruent.

If two figures are congruent, then without bending or changing their position, we can superimpose one figure on the other so that they completely cover each other.
We use the symbol ( ≅ ) to indicate “is congruent to”. If two figures F1 and F2 are congruent, we represent them as:
  • F1  ≅  F2
