What is Chromatin?

In eukaryotic cells, chromatin is the material that makes up a chromosome and consists of DNA and protein. Histones are the major proteins in chromatin act as packaging elements for the DNA. 

Chromatin is essential for the cell to pack complete DNA into a chromosome and cell.
