What is chemical energy? Give examples of chemical energy.

Chemical energy is the energy stored in the bonds of chemical compounds. Chemical energy may be released during a chemical reaction, often in the form of heat; such reactions are called exothermic. Chemical energy is what holds the atoms in a molecule together. Usually, once chemical energy has been released from a substance, that substance is transformed into a completely new substance.

The examples of stored chemical energy are biomass, batteries, natural gas, petroleum, and coal.
