What is Chemical Classification?

Chemical classification a system of classification that attempts to classify elements or compounds according to certain chemical functional or structural properties.

Matter can be classified into two basic categories, mixture and pure substance. When a sample contains different types of molecules, it is called a mixture. Example- solution of sugar in water.

Whereas, if a sample contains the same molecule of the atom, it is called a pure substance. Example- oxygen gas.
