Charcoal is formed by destructive distillation of solid organic matter.

Charcoal is divided into three main types:-

1. Wood charcoal.

2. Bone charcoal.

3. Sugar charcoal.

Wood charcoal is a brittle, porous and bad conductor of heat and electricity. It is used as household fuel and a reducing agent.
