What Is Catalyst?
Dear Eshita,
A catalyst is a substance that speeds up a chemical reaction, but it doesnot takes part in the reaction. It remains chemically unchanged at the end of the reaction. It is needed in very little amounts and is used to speed up a slow process. A catalyst works by providing a different route by lowering the Activation Enrgy needed to be reached by the Reactants to form products.
Example:The catalytic converter in a car contains platinum, which serves as a catalyst to change carbon monoxide, which is toxic, into carbon dioxide.
Iron is used in the manufacturing process of ammonia.
