What is calorific value?


It is the energy contained in fuel or material. It is determined by the amount of energy produced by the complete combustion of the fuel or the material. The SI unit of calorific value is Joule/Kg or Kilo Joule/Kg. The calorific values of some fuels are
LPG - 46.1 MJ/kg
fuel oil - 42.5 MJ/kg
premium grade petrol (gasoline) - 43.5 MJ/kg
