Free bromine is a reddish-brown liquid with an appreciable vapour pressure at room temperature.
It is a non-metal.
Bromine vapour is amber in colour.
It has a pungent odour and is irritating to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system.
Boiling point: 59 °C (138 °F)
Specific gravity: 3.12 at 20 °C (68 °F)
Melting point: −7.2 °C (19 °F)
Atomic number: 35
Uses: Bromine is used in many areas such as agricultural chemicals, dyestuffs, insecticides, pharmaceuticals and chemical intermediates. Bromine compounds can be used as flame retardants.
