What is translocation? How it take place in the plants?

Translocation: Transport of the soluble product of photosynthesis is called Translocation. It is the movement of materials like sugars and nutrients from the leaves to other parts of the plant.

For translocation to occur, Food molecules enter the part of the phloem called sieve tubes from where they can be transported to all parts of the plant including roots.

Translocation is achieved by utilizing energy in the form of ATP. This provides osmotic pressure required for upward and downward movement of food.
