What is metalloid?

Metalloids, also known as semimetals are that chemical elements that form a simple substance having properties intermediate between those of metal and nonmetal.

For example- Silicon is a metalloid because it has lustre, but is brittle.

The term is normally applied to a group of seven commonly recognised elements (boron, silicon, germanium, arsenic, antimony, tellurium, and polonium) found near the centre of the P-block or main block of the periodic table.
