What is Lunar eclipse?

Lunar Eclipse

It can only happen on the night of a full moon and only when the three astronomical bodies, namely the sun, the earth and the moon, align exactly or very closely together, where the earth resides between the two (sun & moon). These three align in such a way that the Earth's placement casts a full shadow on the Moon, making the Moon appear reddish-brown.

Any object that obstructs light will produce two shadows:

1. Umbra- The dark and dense shadow.

2. Penumbra- The light and diffused shadow.
