What is gram positive and gram negative bacteria?
Bacteria are classified into two types such as gram positive and gram negative bacteria depending upon the staining method used to visualize them under the microscope.
The Gram positive bacteria appear purple and Gram negative bacteria appear pink after staining.
The Gram positive bacteria have a thick peptidoglycan layer whereas the Gram negative bacteria have a thin peptidoglycan layer. The outer lipid membrane is absent in Gram positive bacteria and present in Gram negative bacteria.
