What is ATP?

ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) is a nucleotide that performs many essential functions in the cell.

Carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen, and phosphorus are the building blocks of ATP.

It captures chemical energy which is obtained by the breakdown of food molecules and releases it to fuel other cellular processes.

Some important functions of ATP in the cell are given below:

1. Cell Signaling.

2. Active Transport.

3. Muscle contraction.
