What is area? What is the relation of $m^2$ with its multiples?


The area of a geometrical shape or figure can be defined as the space occupied by that shape or the surface of an object.  

The area of a figure is the number of unit squares that cover the surface of a  figure. The area is measured in square units such as square centimeters, square feet, square inches,.

Area is the quantity that expresses the extent of a two-dimensional figure or closed shape or planar lamina, in the plane. Surface area is its equivalent or analog on the two-dimensional surface of a three-dimensional object. The area of a shape can be measured by comparing the shape to squares of a fixed size.

SI unit of area is $m^2$ or square meter.

A multiple of square meters is Hectare

1 Hectare = 10,000 square metres
