Olfactory indicators are indicators whose smell or odour changes when it is mixed in an acidic or basic solution. It can be used in the laboratory to test whether the solution is base or acid.
Onion and vanilla extracts are two olfactory indicators.
When sodium hydroxide solution is added to an olfactory solution like onion juice, the smell of onion cannot be detected.
