What is a spherical mirror? Distinguish between a concave mirror and a convex mirror.
A spherical mirror is a curved reflecting surface which is the part of a hollow sphere of glass. The spherical mirrors are of two types: convex mirrors and concave mirrors.
The difference between convex and concave mirror are as follows:
Concave Mirror | Convex Mirror |
1. In a concave mirror, the reflection of light takes place at a concave surface (or bent-in surface). | 1. In a convex mirror, the reflection of light takes place at the convex surface (or bulging out surface). |
2. It has a real focus. | 2. It has a virtual focus. |
3. It converges the rays of light incident on it. | 3. It diverges the rays of light incident on it. |
