What is a pinhole camera?

The pinhole is simply an extremely small hole like you would make with the tip of a pin.

A pinhole camera is the simplest camera possible, without a lens, in the shape of a box.

It consists of a light-proof box, photographic film and a pinhole.

Pinhole cameras rely on the fact that light travels in straight lines. This principle called the rectilinear propagation of light.
