What is a mixed fraction?

Mixed fractions:

Fractions that have a whole number part and a proper fraction part are called mixed fractions.

For example,

In $2\frac{3}{5}$, 2 is the whole number part and $\frac{3}{5}$ is the proper fraction part.

235 2\frac{3}{5}" role="presentation" style="display: inline; line-height: normal; font-size: 16.94px; word-spacing: normal; overflow-wrap: normal; white-space: nowrap; float: none; direction: ltr; max-width: none; max-height: none; min-width: 0px; min-height: 0px; border: 0px; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; position: relative;">2\frac{3}{5}

A mixed fraction can be converted to an improper fraction.

To convert a mixed fraction to an improper fraction, follow these steps:

1. Multiply the whole number part by the fraction's denominator.

2. Add the result to the numerator.

3. Then write the result on top of the denominator keeping denominator unchanged.

For example,

Convert $2\frac{3}{5}$ into mixed fraction.

1. $5 \times 2 + 3 = 10 + 3 = 13$ is the numerator.

2. Denominator remains unchanged.

3. So,$2\frac{3}{5}= \frac{13}{5}$.
