Answer:

A battery is a device consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with external connections for powering electrical devices such as flashlights, mobile phones, etc.
  The cells store electric charges and generate direct current (DC) through the conversion of chemical energy into electrical energy. 

Batteries are basically classified into 2 types:

Non-rechargeable batteries (primary batteries)

Rechargeable batteries (secondary batteries)
