What is a balanced diet?
A balanced diet is a diet that consists of a variety of different types of food and provides adequate amounts of the nutrients necessary for good health.
It is a diet that contains differing kinds of foods in certain quantities and proportions so that the requirement of calories, proteins, minerals, vitamins and alternative nutrients is met adequately.
A healthful, balanced diet includes foods from these five groups:
vegetables; fruits; grains; protein; dairy
Without balanced nutrition, your body is more prone to disease, infection, fatigue, and low performance. Children who don't get enough healthy foods may face growth and developmental problems, poor academic performance, and frequent infections.
