What initiates changes in males and females in Puberty?

Puberty is initiated by hormonal signals to the gonads (ovaries in females & testes in males).

The ovaries in females produce Estradiol hormone and the testes in males produce Testosterone hormone. 

Rising levels of these hormones lead to the body changes of female and male puberty.
