What happens when we multiply a negative integer with a positive integer?
Given: A negative integer is multiplied with a positive integer.
To find: We have to find what would be the sign of the number that is the result of the product of a negative number and positive number.
Solution:
Example: Find the product of (–5) x 3.
Answer
Multiplication is nothing but repetitive addition.
(–5) x 3 = (–5) + (–5) + (–5) = –15
The result (–15) is a negative integer.
