What happens when
(a) Hydrochloric acid is poured on aluminium foils?
(b) Sodium is placed in water?
(c) Sulphur dioxide is dissolved in water?

(Write the chemical equation of the reaction involved)

(a) When HCl is poured over aluminium foil, the following reaction occurs evolving hydrogen.
$2Al + 6HCl → 2AlCl_3 + 3H_2$

(b) Sodium metal reacts with water to form a colourless solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and liberates hydrogen gas.
$2Na(s) + 2H_2O → 2NaOH(aq) + H_2(g)$

(c) When sulphur dioxide is dissolved in water, then it forms sulphurous acid (H2SO3) which turns blue litmus to red.
$SO_2 + H_2O → H_2SO_3$
