What happens to the resistance as the conductor is made thicker?
The resistance decreases as the conductor is made thicker.
Explanation
The resistance decreases as the conductor is made thicker because resistance is directly proportional to the length of the conductor and inversely proportional to the area of cross-section of the conductor. Therefore, when the conductor is thickened, its area of cross-section increases and since the resistance is inversely proportional to the area of cross-section, thus resistance decreases.
Mathematically it is given as-
$R=\frac{\rho L}{A}$
where, $R$ = Resistance, $\rho $ = Resistivity, $L$ = Length of the wire, $A$ = Area of cross-section of the wire.
