What are the types of Xylem?

The xylem is of two types on the basis of origin, primary xylem and secondary xylem.\r
\r
Primary xylem: Initial formed primary xylem is known as protoxylem, while newly formed primary xylem is known as metaxylem. \r
The two types of arrangements of primary xylem are endarch and exarch.\r
Endarch- This type of arrangement is present in the stem where protoxylem is towards pith and metaxylem is towards the periphery.\r
Exarch- This type of xylem arrangement is present in the roots with metaxylem in the centre and protoxylem towards the periphery.\r
\r
Secondary xylem: These xylem are formed due to the vascular cambium and helps in increasing the girth of the plant. \r
\r
The cells growing towards pith form the secondary xylem. The secondary xylem formed during spring and autumn form an annual ring.\r
