What are the three types of methods used for birth control (or regulating child birth)? Give one example of each type.
There are three types of methods which are used for birth control, they are:
1. Barrier method. Example- condoms.
2. Chemical method. Example- oral pills.
3. Surgical method. Example- vasectomy.
"[Extra information for reference only]"
Barrier method - This method involves putting up a barrier between the male and the female sex cells (sperms and ova) via a physical block or kill sperm cells before they are able to fertilize an egg. This method can be used by both men and women.
A barrier like a contraceptive sponge (kill sperm cells), diaphragm, cervical shield or cervical cap is used by the females to prevent the sperm from reaching the egg, while condoms are used by the males.
Chemical Method - This method involves the use of chemicals to prevent ovulation in a woman. Oral contraceptive pills are the most widely used chemical method, other options are available including estrogen and progestin-releasing patches or vaginal rings, and injections of progestin (birth control shot).
Surgical Method - This method is a form of permanent birth control that is available for both women (tubal ligation) and men (vasectomy).
In tubal ligation, the fallopian tube is either cut or sealed so that eggs do not reach the uterus at all, while in vasectomy the vas deferens is cut and sealed so that the sperms do not enter the ejaculation stream.
