What are the major domains of the earth?

There are four major domains of Earth, and they are -

1. Lithosphere

The term Lithosphere derived from the Greek word, lithos meaning rocky and sphaira meaning sphere or region.

It is the rigid, solid outer section of Earth consisting of the crust (the outermost layer of rock on Earth), and the upper mantle.

2. Hydrosphere

The term Hydrosphere derived from the Greek word, hydro meaning water, and sphaira meaning sphere or region.

It is the combined or total amount of water found on, under, and above the surface of a planet. It can be in the form of liquid, vapour, or ice.

3. Atmosphere

The term Atmosphere derived from the Greek word, atmos meaning vapour and sphaira meaning sphere or region.

It is the blanket of gases commonly known as air, which surrounds Earth.

4. Biosphere

The term Biosphere derived from the Greek word, bios meaning life and sphaira meaning sphere or region. It is also known as the ecosphere.

It is the layer of the planet Earth where life exists. It surrounds the Earth along with the lithosphere (rock), hydrosphere (water), and atmosphere (air) and it is the sum of all the ecosystems.
