What are the major groups of microorganisms?


A microorganism or microbe is an organism that is microscopic, which means too small to see with the naked eye. These may exist in its single-celled (unicellular) form or in a colony of cells. The study of microorganisms is known as microbiology.

They can be divided into six major groups: bacteria, viruses, fungi, archaea, protozoa, and algae.
